Laboratory and Research Experiences Enrich Undergraduate Education

Research and laboratory training with top scientists using the latest equipment is among the educational experiences that are most prized by science graduates of Washington State University.

In their first jobs, many WSU science graduates report that their laboratory skills more than matched those of other new employees with degrees from other top institutions. Job skills are further enhanced by the experiences students have in completing team projects.

Some 40 undergraduate fields of study are offered by the College of Sciences. They include outstanding programs in the biological and physical sciences and mathematics. In environmental science students can earn a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in only five years.

To help our undergraduates succeed in their chosen field, a range of special help programs are available. They range from free tutoring to specialized advising. Most science departments have their own computer lab equipped with specialized software for the use of their undergraduate majors. Science majors also make frequent use of the Science Learning Instructional Center (SLIC), which offers such things as course-specific software, practice exams, journal articles, class checkout material, and molecule models.
